Want to look as though you belong on Melrose? Visit "Leather Treasure". Filled with leather jackets, cowboy boots, pants, and jewelry, Country and Western singers are regulars there. And don't miss "A Star is Born". 'Gently-worn' clothing is consigned there by Hollywood stars. Many pieces are from top international designers, worn only a few times, most likely to dinners and parties. I purchased my first leather jacket there! One rack had pieces sent by Cher - a pink tank top, some shell-shaped breast-plates, and a black terry-and-leather jumpsuit, all for a third of original price. Elvis Presley's ex-wife, Priscilla, had contributed a delightful red, cotton-and-leather dress. And singer Prince's clothing used in the movie "Purple Rain". All items come with a 'letter of authenticity', and part of sale proceeds goes to a charity of the star's choosing. A truly fun experience! Mention the name Hollywood or 'tinsel-town' - and it conjures up ideas of glamour, parties, beautiful people, and movie deals. Years ago maybe! The city is gradually cleaning out the homeless people, runaways, and drug dealing on Hollywood Boulevard. One side of the sidewalk has inscribed stars on the pavement honoring movies stars, TV personalities, and singers (Ozzie Osborne got his just recently). With the opening of the Kodak Theater opposite (the new, permanent home for the Oscars), things are looking up. It is close to the famous Mann's Chinese Theater, where legendary movie stars' hand and shoe prints are embedded permanently in the concrete walk. Every block on the strip has specialty stores - a one-of-a-kind clothing store, a biker store, or everything leather. Several secondhand stores cater to budding artists and musicians. One store on the Boulevard stands out - bright pink, Fredericks of Hollywood. Famous for it's rather risque lingerie (buying sexy 5" red satin heels in the shoe department were two apparent 'pay-for-play' girls), they have a selection of ordinary and pretty lingerie too. The rear of the store houses amazing memorabilia - filled with THE first bra, lingerie and pieces of clothing worn by the stars. Everything from Jane Russell's famous bra to Elizabeth Taylor's bustier dress and Marilyn Monroe's lingerie. Cher has an autographed bra there, and Madonna's black breast-plated masterpiece is front and center. Los Angeles is a clothes-shoppers paradise, especially for casual wear - and this season's hippy chic. And ALWAYS an exciting and exhilarating place to visit. I can't wait to go again!
