"Tell Donny to come in then," Madelyn said, dusting crumbs from her fingers. "Have them set a place for him at the table as well. And make sure they throw him out at the first sign of trouble." She turned to the next man in line. "Oh Louis, I have missed you so." He kissed her lightly on the lips and she smiled up at him. "You must meet Al, the new love of my life. Al, sweetie, this is Lou, my second husband." "We should exchange notes some time," Lou said and extended a hand to Al. "How long are you staying here in Medieval Land anyway?" "Only a few days," Al said, but Mad shook her head. "We are never leaving. I love it here." Al's jaw twitched quite attractively. "Madelyn, I'm supposed to close on the ranch next week." She touched a hand to his cheek. "Not any more darling." Now, it's widely known that Hot Al's great-grandfather lost not only the family's good name, but also their fabulous ranch when he was arrested for bootlegging back in the twenties. It's also known that Al put in an offer to buy that same property the moment his engagement to Madelyn was announced. And I could only imagine what was going through his head as those big, rough hands clenched at his sides. "What are you talking about?" he muttered. "The sale was conditional on finance, remember?" "So?" Madelyn leaned closer, lowered her voice to a whisper. "So yours just fell through." He looked truly puzzled. "But why?"
