    LET'S TALK BIKINI

Also, improper waxing procedure can cause bruising to the sensitive bikini line area.

"If the wax is not pulled away properly, for example it is pulled up instead of in parallel to the skin, it could cause bruising," says Shrigley.

"While one hand pulls the hair, the other should hold the skin."

Depending on the aesthetician, waxing can range anywhere from $20 to $60 for legs and $10 to $15 for bikini. It is recommended that you wait 12 hours before exposing your skin to the sun after it has been waxed. Since waxing also gets rid of some of the dead skin cells, it helps leave the skin looking fresher and smoother for a longer period of time.

There is also an alerternative to waxing, which is sugaring. Sugaring is actually an ancient Egyptian technique that has been populare in the Middle East for quite some time and only began to become popular here in North American in the early '90s, says Candice Williams of Candice Williams Body Sugaring in Toronto.

"It's a natural process," says Williams who explains that the product is made from sugar and honey. "It's great for those with allergies or skin sensitivity."

Williams has been practicing sugaring for nine years and says that her customers are not always aware of the benefits of sugaring.

"Some didn't realize I could do facial hair," she says. According to Williams, sugaring is less painful than waxing because the sugaring does not need to be at such a high temperature as the wax. She also claims that sugaring causes less ingrown hair especially for those with coarser hair. "Fair hair people may not have that problem," she says of the ingrowns.

The other advantage of sugaring is that the sugar usually comes off easier with just plain water than wax does, but Williams suggests using baby oil if you ever get into a sticky situation.

Williams says the prices for sugaring are inline with prices for waxing. Williams charges $27 for half leg sugaring, $50 for full legs, $15 for bikini, $6 for facial hair and $50 for back, as well as combination packages.
