    GRINNING FOR THE PERFECT SMILE

Cosmetic dentistry performed by Dr. Carol Waldman
Home whitening kits, however, do cause some tooth sensitivity for some patients. For these patients, Waldman suggests using the trays every second or third day.

"There are new solutions that make teeth less sensitive," says Waldman. "But you can slow down the process by using the trays every two days. It will take longer to get the results, but you'll still get there."

If you have a crown or crowns on your teeth, it is recommended that you replace the old crown with a new one designed in the same colour as your newly bleached teeth.

Home whitening kits cost from $300 to $500.

Besides whitening there are many other procedures that can be used to achieving the smile you want. And yes, Waldman says almost any smile can be fixed.

"All you need is time and money," says Waldman. "Time, money and inclination. You have to be motivated sometimes, to come to appointments, it takes commitment."

Some other procedures as described by the AACD include:

Bonding using composite resin: process by which enamel-like resin is bonded to a tooth's surface, sculpted to an ideal shape, hardened, and polished.

Bridge: fixed or removable dental appliance, which replaces lost teeth.

Composite resin: tooth-coloured filling material made of resin reinforced with silica or porcelain particles.

Cosmetic contouring: reshaping the natural teeth to make them straighter or more youthful in appearance.

Crown: a cap, cover, or restoration to replace the missing portion of a tooth. (This procedure can also correct general bite with individual teeth or replace missing teeth.)

Fixed bridge: fixed dental appliance (used to replace a missing tooth/teeth) cemented or bonded to adjacent teeth that have been prepared to provide anchor supports.

Implant: fixed dental appliance used to replace teeth.

Laminate veneer: thin porcelain resin shell bonded to enamel of front teeth.

Laminating: applying a thin porcelain or composite resin veneer to a tooth.
