    IS EXFOLIATION SOMETIMES NOT ADVISED?

Naturally, if you have certain skin conditions such as rosacea, you should not exfoliate; it will only aggravate the problem.

You should avoid prolonged exposure to the sun (we love it, too, but it can be aggressive) and hair removal (waxing) for a period of 24 hours after exfoliating.

WHICH BRAND IS BEST FOR YOU? A FEW SUGGESTIONS THAT ARE CLEARLY NOT "FLAKY"!

    FOR THE BODY

  • If you want to turn exfoliation into a sensual experience...Origins has what you are looking for : its new, sublime body cleanser with fruit enzymes, "Not a moment of sadness" and its exfoliating scrubs "Escape" and "Be happy" (about $25 each available as of August 6 at Les Ailes de la Mode located in downtown Montreal or at www.origins.com). The granular properties found in these completely natural products are crushed apricot pits and microgranules of jojoba and carnauba. Mmmmm!

  • Lancome's Body Exfoliator - Peau de Peche ($30) is a classic. Makes your skin peachy clean!

  • If your beauty budget allows it, the luxurious Sweet Sugar Body Scrub by Helena Rubenstein ($36) is an excellent choice; actually it's the cream of the crop!

  • Yves Rocher's foaming exfoliating gel Spa Dynamique ($14) has a refreshing marine sent and provides a gentle exfoliating action perfect for sensitive skin or skin prone to getting varicose veins.

  • Marcelle's Exfoliating Gel ($14.95) is enriched with AHAs and kelp extracts. It is hypoallergenic and great for even the most sensitive skins.

  • Clarin's Exfoliator ($38), a pioneer in the world of exfoliators, is without a doubt the most popular. Its subtle scent is reminiscent of l'Eau Dynamisante by Clarins.

  • Guerlain's Reve bleu exfoliator from the Body Secret line of products ($45) is what every woman would love to receive as a gift. It is fresh and creamy with a sophisticated scent and its tiny seashell particles leave skin silky soft.

    FOR THE FACE

  • L'Oreal Paris' Turning Point cream ($9.95) is miraculous. Your face feels softer after only the first application.

  • Hydra-detox by Biotherm gives other products a run for their money. The Detoxifying Cleansing Foam (about $26) gives new meaning to the words "deep cleansing". It not only buffs the skin leaving it softer than ever, it also purifies it.
