As
for the latest trends, Sowden says she recommends her clients to be
subtle.
"Hip hugger flares, I would say no. Tight top, I would say
no. Try mixing seasonal colours with your wardrobe. For example, this
season get something that is turquoise which is in this year."
While Sowden says she has never had a client who lost a job or
promotion because of his or her image, she does know of colleagues'
clients who did.
When asked about the affordability of dressing
appropriately, Sowden says "you buy the best of what you can afford." Buy
the basics: jacket, slacks and a skirt. For a man: suite, sports jacket
and blazer. She also suggests buying on sale or looking for outlet stores,
which many of the major retailers have.
Sowden says the image one
puts forth is important to respecting themselves and those whom the person
is meeting with.
"If you're meeting someone for the first time, it
gives them the message that this person respects me."
