Do you have the right look for work?

Makeup is also an issue in the work place. Often trendy colours and looks are tempting to try out at the office. But Sowden cautions this instinct.

"Keep it simple," she says. "But, you do need to wear makeup." She feels that if a woman takes the time to prepare an outfit and fix her hair she should also pay attention to her face. If you are one who is not used to wearing makeup, Sowden suggests a tinted moisturizer to give some colour to the face.

"A light foundation, a tinted moisturizer, mascara, a little bit of blush, and lipstick."

But, there are some who will argue to Sowden that they should not have to change who they are just because they are going to work. To that Sowden replies, "You have to take a look at who's paying your paycheck. You don't have to totally take away from all your personality. But take a look at what others are wearing. You want to blend in. People relate to people dressed in the same manner."

There are ways, Sowden suggests, one can add their own personal touch to an outfit. And that is through accessories.

"Scarves are back in again; or a pin, or a belt. That's where you show your flare and style."
