Do you have the right look for work?
The case of Laura Joy, a Windsor lawyer who was told to change her wardrobe by Justice Micheline Rawlins, sparked a controversial question of what is appropriate work attire. Joy felt she was appropriately dressed while Rawlins did not. But the discussion in offices and around the watercoolers not only applies to wardrobe but can also include makeup and hair. So, what is the appropriate look for work? Anne Sowden, President of Here's Looking At You, helps her clients achieve the right image for today's working world. "I think the situation with the lawyer, it was the overall image she presented--with her hair and nails. Her clothes looked fine," says Sowden. "Keep your hairstyle simple. Wear it up or wear it back. Not puffy," she says. "You don't have time to fuss about your hair." Sowden says that the issue of overall image has not been addressed enough. "I think people need to pay more attention. We've forgotten how important what you wear is."
