    A CHALLENGE FOR YOUR ARMS

"Form is so important [with all these exercises]," says McDonald. "One, because you don't want to mess up...and hurt yourself. And two, because you want to get the most out of your work out and the most out of your time."

One exercise you can perform on a gym machine involves using ropes formed into a V-shape. Usually this apparatus is detachable and may be lying around the machine. Attached the V-shaped rope to a point above your head. Choose a weight that will challenge you and slowly pull the rope down towards the ground while pushing your hands away from each other. Again, apply the eight to 15 repetition principle as you would to the other exercises.

There are quite a few exercises listed here and of course time is a factor for everyone. If you're looking to save time, McDonald offers a couple of suggestions. First, don't forget to stretch after each workout. McDonald recommends 20 second for each muscle exercised.

If you're pressed for time, stretch in between sets. Second, try "supersetting". This means working a different muscle while resting another one. For example, after completing one set of a bicep routine, instead of walking around, move to the tricep exercise. This way, you rest the bicep but eliminate the time you would spend later on the tricep.

And one more factor I took away from my conversation with McDonald: challenge yourself. Remember, I was the one who never lifted anything but 8 pounds; well McDonald had me lifting 30. Sure I complained, but I never would have thought I could if I didn't challenge myself.

Of course, remember to speak with your physician before attempting any new exercise program. These were suggestions that may help with your work out. Good luck and let us know how it goes.
